Edward F. Loomis

Hoosick Falls – Edward F. Loomis, 89, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2011, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, VT. He was the husband of the late Marie (Kincaid) Loomis who died in 2005. Edward and Marie were married on April 4, 1942.
Born on August 26, 1921, in North Bennington, VT, Ed was the son of the late George and Ida H. (Johnson) Loomis. He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls, NY, in the class of 1939. Ed was a veteran of the United States Navy serving on the escort ships USS Snowden and the Brennan; he was an electrician on those ships. He served in the North and South Atlantic, the Mediterranean and the South Pacific. He worked for Joseph Bradley as an electrician until 1952 when he started his own electrical business, operating it for forty-five years.
Ed was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls. He enjoyed people and traveling throughout Vermont.
Survivors include his children, Kathy A. Cherry and husband Wayne of Saratoga Springs, NY, Edward F. Loomis Jr. of Baltimore, MD, J. Gary Loomis and wife Joan of Easton, NY, and New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Jeffrey J. Loomis and wife Terry of Hoosick Falls, his brothers, Wallace W. Loomis of Stephentown, NY, and Henry O. Loomis of Melbourne, FL. Ed is also survived by nine grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. He is pre-deceased by four sisters, Beatrice Olive, Bertha, Fanny and Beatrice, and four brothers, George Jr., LeRoy, Donald and William.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be offered on Friday, January 28, at 10 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the Mass at Hoosick Rural Cemetery, Hoosick, NY.
Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls on Thursday from 4 to 7 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to either St. Mary’s Academy or the Hoosick Rural Cemetery Association through the funeral home.
