Wednesday, November 22, 1854: A snow storm. John F. drove the cattle home from the Rodgers farm and Capt. Skinner came and skinned four hogs for us and paid three cts per pound for the skins, they came to three dollars and 30 cts. This evening John F. rode to Lebanon and could not market the hog I expected said Tanner to buy but he could not take the hog.
Thursday: John F. went uptown with his two horse team and carried Palmer Barnes 90 feet ash plank, and at evening John F. carried a fat hog to Palmer Barnes and for the same said Barnes is to pay him the cash, six dol 50 cts per cwt weight, two hundred ninety seven pounds.
Friday: Geo P. carried Doctor Bates 7 bushel turnips and the widow Torrey one. Yesterday Doctor Bates called to my house and got one bushel turnips and he credits two dollars on account.
Monday: Today my women dressed thirty nine fowls for market.
Tuesday: Today John F. went to Pittsfield with my horse and wagon and he sold the 39 fowl at nine cents per.
Wednesday: I tended to chores and helped some to bank the house. Today Patrick Rafferty worked for us, he banked house, chopped and shoveled the ditch round the cider house. John F. went to Hancock with turnips, he paid one bushel to Gustus Landon for me which squared my account with him for a wash stand and then John F. charged said Landon for 3 bushel, he then charged Bartlet for 5 bushel and Hecock for 6 bushels and sold 12 heads cabbage for 60 cts cash, and paid 80 cts cash to the Union store for two gallons molasses and forgot his jug to fetch the molasses home.
Thursday: Today Geo P. and wife and her sister Ellen went to Lenox to hold Thanksgiving to his father in law’s, Wm. McMurray.
Saturday: This morning John Merrils helped John F. butcher two pigs and then he went with my horse and wagon to Hancock and carried one pig to Hecock and the other to Mr. and turnips to Hecock, and John F. got the jug of molasses he forgot and left the jug the other day to the Union store.
Sunday, Dec. 3: A snow storm and high wind drifted the roads and blew down a number of apple trees tonight.
Tuesday: John F. went onto the highway to brake out the road where it was drifted and John F. helped Geo P. butcher two pigs.
