Gertrude M. Derby

Hancock – Gertrude M. “Trudy” Derby, 88, formerly of Main Street, Hancock, MA, died on Saturday, November 20, 2010, with her family by her side at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield, MA, where she had resided for four years.
Born in Hancock on July 7, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Roland Sherman and Mary LeBarron Sherman Bailey. She was the loving wife of the late Grover “Frank” Derby, who died on December 25, 1984. They were married on August 6, 1939. She attended schools in Lanesborough, MA, and Pittsfield.
Trudy was employed for several years at Sweet Brook Nursing Home in Williamstown, MA. She bowled at the former Lar-A-Bowl in New Lebanon, NY, and was an avid Red Sox fan.
Survivors include her seven children, Gerald W. and wife Dottie Derby of Stephentown, NY, Sherman L. Derby Sr. and wife Sandra of Hancock, Pamela J. Curry of North Carolina, Ronald E. and wife Mary Ann Derby and Letitia M. and husband Charles Lahey, all of the State of Florida, Grover Paul and wife Helen Derby of Pittsfield and Edward J. and wife Jan Derby of Hancock. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 24, at 1 pm in the Hancock Baptist Church, Main Street, Hancock. Burial followed in the Hancock Cemetery.
Relatives and friends were invited to visitation on Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm in the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY 43, Stephentown. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hancock Baptist Church in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 9, Stephentown, NY, 12168, in loving memory of Gertrude M. “Trudy” Derby.
