The Hoosick Falls Girls Soccer team went into Wednesday’s game against the current first place team, Hoosic Valley. The Panthers knew that in order to win the WASAREN League this would be a game they needed to win. However, within the first minutes HV scored from a corner kick. One minute later HV’s Mollie Gilchrist scored another goal with the assist from Janelle Stannard. Another minute later, HF’s Maritza Gonzalez came flying down the side line and crossed the ball for teammate Jordyn Haynes to finish. With 15 minutes left Mackenzie Hinchliffe dribbled through several Hoosic Valley players to feed the ball to Gonzalez who put the ball in the back left corner of the goal. Tied 2-2 with 12

seconds left in the first half HF scored again. Gonzalez passed the ball to Haynes who finished it to end the half 3-2 Hoosick Falls.
As soon as the second half started, there was another goal from Haynes with the assist from Grace Delurey. Immediately after that HV answered with a goal from Allie Roberts off of a free kick 10 yards outside of the 18 yard box. HF answered again with another goal combo from Gonzalez and Hinchliffe, for Gonzalez’s second goal and Hinchliffe’s second assist. With the score at 5-3 with two minutes left Hoosic Valley was not done. Gilchrist added another goal with an assist from Roberts off another free kick. HV did not give up. With two minutes left they had great chances to tie it up, but Hoosick Fall’s defense did not let anyone past.
Maritza Gonzalez has been scoring a lot lately; just in this game she got two goals and two assists. “Scoring goals lately has made me extra confident, and I feel like the little boost will help me score more in the future. It also helps knowing that I’m helping my team,” Gonzalez said.
The girls will play Cambridge this Friday. Cambridge is also at the top of the standings along with Hoosick Falls. Although Hoosick Falls beat them the last time 4-0, anything can happen.
