Friday, February 3, 1854: My two sons drew each a load of ice from Conklin mill pond, and Geo P. slipped into the water and wet him bad, it being quite cold day.
Saturday: John F. took his horse and wagon and carried our carrot seed to the Church family of the Shakers to have cleaned but they would not clean it and he fetched it home again. Today Mr. King from Canaan came to look at John F. fat cattle but did not bargain, he took dinner with us.

Fatal Accident On Petersburgh Pass
McElheny Charged With Murder

Joseph F. McElheny, 30, of 3 River St., Hoosick Falls was indicted by a Grand Jury, arrested and arraigned in Rensselaer County Court before Judge Andrew Ceresia on Friday, August 13. He is charged with second degree murder, second degree manslaughter, three counts of second degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child. The charges stem from the death of his four and a half month old daughter, Ina Jane, on May 12 when the Hoosick Falls Police were called to the home because the child was unresponsive. Investigation into the death by the NYS Police has been underway since then. An autopsy was performed and the charges are based on that medical and other evidence.
McElheny is being held in the Rensselaer County Jail pending a bail application by his attorney.
Water Bombshell In Berlin

As promised at the July meeting, Town Board Member Richard von Schilgen dropped a water bombshell at the Berlin Town Board’s regular meeting last Thursday, August 12. The bombshell was in the form of a lengthy letter about the deficiencies of Water District #2, which supplies water to the village of Berlin, from Pa’s Country Car Wash on Route 22 in the north, down South Main Street to the intersection of Route 22 and South Main, branching up Plank Road one house past Morse Heating and up Green Hollow Road to Whitney Rathbun’s, through Echo Park, Brookside Park and to Berlin Elementary in the south of the village. Village of Hoosick Falls Board Action – Water Meter Fines

At the close of the Public Hearing on water meter fines during the Hoosick Falls Village Board Meeting on Tuesday, August 17, the Board approved Local Law #2. Effective October 1 anyone who has not installed a water meter in his or her property will be fined $250 a month until a meter is installed. Stephentown Residents Favor Two-Way Provost Road

It’s been six years since the Stephentown Town Board restricted Provost Road to one-way traffic. Now it appears that the Town is about make it a two-way road again. At a public hearing on Monday prior to the regular Board meeting, everyone who spoke was in favor of returning the road to two-way. The major proponent for making it one-way had been Cindy Raymann, proprietor of A Dog’s Best Friend kennel and dog training facility, and it was reported that she had died in the past week.
