Hoosick – Leverett M. LeBarron, 100, passed away on Monday, August 23, 2010, at his residence on LeBarron Road in Hoosick, NY, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Margaret (Prentiss) LeBarron, who died in 1974.
Born on LeBarron Road on December 10, 1909, Leverett was the son of the late Earnest and Nora (O’Neil) LeBarron. He attended schools in Potter Hill, Hoosick. Leverett worked for the Rensselaer County Highway Department as an equipment operator, retiring in 1972. Leverett was a member of the Moose Club in Bennington, VT, the Hoosick Grange, the Derby Club and was a Charter Member of the Eagles Aerie # 2467, both in Hoosick Falls, NY.
Survivors include his daughters, Lorraine Surdam of Hoosick Falls and Beverly Cummings and husband Robert of Green Valley, AZ, and a son, Edward LeBarron and wife Uma of Clifton Park, NY. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Susan(Surdam) Sousie and husband Nick of Hoosick Falls, Joanne (Surdam) Godkin and husband Warren of West Hoosick, NY, Richard Surdam and wife Linda of Hoosick Falls, Sandra (Surdam) Metcalf and husband Dwayne of Hoosick Falls, Sharon (Surdam) Barber and husband Donald of Hoosick Falls, Glenn Rifenburg and wife Kathy of Valley Falls, NY, Donn Rifenburg and wife Karen of North Creek, NY, David Rifenburg and wife Karen of Hoosick Falls, Robert Cummings and wife Robyn of Billings, MT, Todd Cummings and wife Pamela of Huntington, VT, Jason Cummings and wife Tracy of Hinesburg, VT, Beverly LeBarron, Commerce, TX, and Donna Johns of Colara, OK, as well as many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Leverett is pre-deceased by a son, Richard LeBarron, a daughter, Marjorie Rifenburg, six sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services are Friday, August 27, at 11 am from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the service at Hoosick Rural Cemetery, Hoosick. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 7 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Rensselaer County Community Hospice or the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.
