Faculty, Staff, Family, Friends, and Fellow Graduates:
I only have a few minutes to recap all of our memories together so I’m going to get right to it. Do not think of this as a sad day where our high school years come to an end and we say goodbye. It is not an ending but rather a beginning, a start to a wonderful future. These are the times when opportunities begin to emerge; when we look back on all of our past memories, and look forward to the good times we have yet to experience.

In looking back at the past, I can’t help but think of all the time we have spent with each other. Most of us have been together for four years and even longer. We see each other every morning at 7:44 yawning and dragging our feet to first period… (That is those of us who have woken up in time for first period.) So I did a little calculating to see just how long we’ve actually spent with each other. We have been in high school for four years times 180 days per year times 8 periods per day times 45 minutes per period. So using a little mental math I attempted to calculate the total amount of time we have been together, and I failed miserably. Grabbing a calculator, I came to the conclusion that we have spent about 4,320 hours or 259,200 minutes or most impressively 15,552,000 seconds together in the past four years. If you really think about it, this is a massive amount of time… some of it spent listening to lectures or fumbling through lab experiments… but most of it spent having fun and making memories.
Some of the memories along the way included a new administration. So, thanks to Mr. Facin and Company (AKA the principals and Board), we were privileged to have a new senior area, and new smart boards in the classrooms. Also, a beautiful new lobby greeted us each morning, and oh yeah, a new morning that started 31 minutes earlier, cough, cough.
As a class we have had some pretty amazing moments such as homecoming week… powder-puff games… proms… senior ball… and battle of the belts… the winning streaks of the sports teams… and being entertained by Rumors and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. On our way to lunch, we would get excited about chicken patty and chicken and broccoli days. There were the unforgettable trips to the Coliseum in Italy with Mr. Hammond and clawing our way through the rain forest of Costa Rica with Mr. Meyer and Mrs. Mabey. And back in the classroom, we can’t forget Mr. Hammond’s “You know what they say in the old country” quotes or Mrs. Hoag’s “Miss a day miss a lot,” Miss McGuire’s “quadratic formula song” and Mr.. Fleming’s “take care brush your hair” saying.
Also amazing are our family, friends, teachers and the community. You guys are the best. You have been on the sidelines (rain or shine), in the gym and in the auditorium supporting our events. And, just when you think you couldn’t stand one more fundraiser, you always bought one more cheesecake or one more magazine subscription. The businesses endured our begging for sponsorship, or just one more item for the raffle basket. We really appreciated your support.
All of these memories bring us to this present day. Take a look around and notice all of the friends, family and teachers here encouraging us and wishing us the best of luck. They are the reason we are on this stage… the reason we will walk away with a diploma… and the reason we made it this far. So thank you for giving us a memorable past, an exciting present, and a bright future. We owe our accomplishments to all of you who in one way or another have influenced our lives and pushed us to do our very best.
Because of that overwhelming love and inspiration, we will go on to do great things and accomplish many of our goals. Although many of us will go our own ways, never forget where you came from because all the tools you have acquired in your past are the reasons you have a future. Never give up on your dreams and enjoy the excitement of the adventures ahead of you. Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” So to everyone here today, be on the lookout because the Class of 2010 has just begun. Thank you.
Hoosick Falls Salutatory
by Megan McEachron
First of all I would like to welcome everyone here tonight. For most of us, we began school thirteen years ago and didn’t comprehend the fact that we would eventually grow up, after all, how could we? The only things on our minds were what’s for lunch? And when is recess? At five years old those two things seemed like they took triumph over virtually everything else.

As we got a little older though, we began to realize that there was more to life than pizza and playtime, but still, that thing called high school seemed incredibly far away. We didn’t really know what high school was, all that we did know was, that we couldn’t wait to get there.
The years passed by slowly as we graduated from the little kid playground to the big one and from cubbies to actual lockers. But it still seemed like high school would never come.
Middle school brought the new experience of getting to switch classes for the first time and have the responsibility of having your own locker. We all managed to survive this phase although I do recall a couple of the boys getting busted for having a very large food stash in their locker in sixth grade. The end of sixth grade marked the end of the beloved field days and meant that we had to transition to the high school schedule and follow the bells. The first couple days were a little rough due to the very complicated room number system. We all got lost at some point or another… and still can’t figure out why room 215 is not on the same floor as 207 and 224.
Despite the confusion of middle school though, we FINALLY made it to high school, which naturally began the long wait until senior year. As freshmen we became the underdogs again, but managed to make it through our first homecoming and the senior class that threw snowballs at us in the hallways.
Sophomore year was uneventful. As juniors we held our own in powderpuff, had an amazing prom and didn’t let the SATs kill us.
And finally, senior year was upon us. The fact that the countdown of days until graduation on the Government and Economics board started the second week of school was only a small hint that we were anxious for this night that we thought would never come.
As the Class of 2010, we have been through a lot together. We’ve felt the excitement of winning, and the pain of losing a hard fought game. We had pep rally, and powderpuff… despite the pouring rain. Senior lounge opened earlier than any other classes. And we even managed to pull together senior skits in a matter of two weeks.
If we have all only learned one thing here at HFCS, it is that determination and hard work pays off, no matter what we are talking about. I’m sure that some of our teachers, even though they can’t wait to get rid of us, are questioning whether or not we are ready for the real world and everything that comes after this stage of our lives. We are capable of anything we put our minds to, just Don’t Stop Believin’.
