Letters To The Editor – To Set The Record Straight

May 7, 2010 By eastwickpress

Dear Editor;
In a recent news story, a statement was made in reference to an increase of $10,000 in the Superintendent’s Salary as a planned raise for the current Interim Superintendent. This statement was reported inaccurately on this budget increase.
The current Interim Superintendent continues to work under the same level of compensation as was negotiated in the first year of service. This compensation, as required by law, is reported each year on the School District’s website as well as to the State Aid Management System as part of the school report card. The current Superintendent continues to work for the same salary as originally negotiated.
The budgeted amount in any area is the assumed level of funding for the upcoming school year. What this means in terms of this situation is that at the time of budgeting last year this salary was set at $115,000 with the assumption that a Superintendent search would be conducted and that this would be an adequate salary for the new Superintendent. The salary on the budget line is taken from the salaries as reported to the Capital Area School District Association for their annual Statistical & Financial Study as the median salary for this title. This is the same assumption for a new Superintendent used to calculate the budget this year.
Charlotte Gregory
The current Interim Superintendent
