To the Editor:
We read with interest the letter from Lenore Humphrey regarding the efforts of Heinz Noeding.
We know neither Ms. Humphrey nor Mr. Noeding and, shamefully, we are unaware of the school board issues.
What does seem obvious to us, however, is how hostile this letter is.
While the notion of Ms. Humphrey’s family being here since 1780 is romantic, it does not offer special insight into the school board decision…just as Mr. Noeding’s “newness” doesn’t.
If Ms. Humphrey has a criticism of Mr. Noeding’s ideas, please share them with us. If she has a more constructive plan, please share that with us.
It’s interesting that Ms. Humphrey uses words like “cracker,” “village idiots” and “dumb cracker” to describe our fellow residents. I doubt Mr. Noeding used any of these terms. Ms. Humphrey also castigates all bankers. Would that include a local banker whose family has lived here since 1780?
When Ms. Humphrey uses words like “banker,” “big city” and “newcomer” negatively, she exposes herself as being as prejudiced as she accuses Mr. Noeding of being.
Good people and good ideas come with their own merit, be they from long termers or newcomers.
Sincerely,
