Mountaineer/Tiger Wrestlers Face Tough Competition At ICC Tourney

January 29, 2010 By eastwickpress

by Ryan Mosher
The Berlin-New Lebanon wrestling team traveled to the Ichabod Crane wrestling tournament this past weekend to take on several tough Capital District wrestling teams. After losing the opening match of the day to a very tough Schuylerville team, the Mountaineers/Tigers then took on Schoharie. Ben Tavares led off for Berlin/New Leb with a second period pin in his 112 pound match. Dylan Lee followed up with a hard fought 5-2 decision in his 125 pound match. At 171 pounds, Cory Chaudoin pinned his opponent with 1:56 remaining in the first period. Nick Dorn followed him with a win by pin just before the first period ended. Despite these victories by the Berlin/New Lebanon grapplers, forfeits decided the match as Schoharie won 36-27.

After being swept by Cohoes, Berlin/New Leb took on Taconic Hills. Differing weight classes between the two teams resulted in just five actual matches. Dylan Lee recorded a 4-0 victory for Berlin/NL to start off. Cory Chaudoin and Jordon Rathbun each recorded second period pins for Mountaineer/Tiger wins, and Tim Chaudoin had a first period pin. Despite winning four of the five matches, Berlin/NL still fell 30-27 due to forfeits at different weight classes.
Berlin/New Lebanon finally recorded a win versus Waterford in the final match of the day. Dylan Lee won with a pin in the first period to lead Berlin/NL to the 36-24 victory. Lee was 3-1 on the day, and Cory Chaudoin recorded two pins for the Mountaineers/Tigers.
