Letter To The Editor – Get Informed About The Bond Vote

November 20, 2009 By eastwickpress

Dear Editor,
This is to address all BCSD residents. I went to the information meeting last night [Monday, November 16] at BES. For all who are able to attend the next meeting on 11/24/09 at 6:30, please do so.
Many facts were presented. The BES is in desperate need of repair and upgrades in order to accommodate children and staff. Six new rooms will be added, windows replaced, lead abatement done, rewiring, an elevator installed and numerous other improvements that need to be made.
Nineteen million dollars is a lot of money to wrap your head around, so the committee broke it down for us. If your home is assessed at $125,000 (this is the broad end of the spectrum) your taxes will go up $173 dollars a year. That averages out to be $14.42 a month. This referendum is separate from the usual budget. The price is locked in, so we will not have the same situation that we did with the 1989 add-on for the high school in Cherry Plain.
Economic times are tough, this project will keep folks working!
Here is a thought…if your home was a fire hazard or had harmful fumes would you fix the problem for the safety of your children? Of course you would. What if a loved one was in a wheelchair and couldn’t get out of the house without a ramp? Would you put a ramp in to improve the quality of life for that loved one? Of course you would.
It’s time for everyone to have an open mind and learn the facts before listening to others’ opinions. Make your own decision!
The health and safety of our children and devoted staff is what is in jeopardy here. Go to the meeting and make up your own mind after listening to the facts.
Sincerely,
Tammy G. Moore
