Nanotech Day Available to all Girls

October 30, 2009 By eastwickpress

The Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York invites girls in sixth to twelfth grade to tour the University of Albany’s $5 billion nanotechnology complex and learn first hand about the research being done and careers available in this new field.
Registered girl scouts can attend by calling their troop leader or Sue Cass at 733-6488 to sign up. The cost is $8. The deadline to sign-up is November 1.
Any girl can register to be a girl scout and sign up to attend. Registration costs $12 and the program $8. Financial assistance is available. The deadline to register in time for this trip is November 1.
Girls can now join girl scouts for a day, a season or the year. You don’t have to belong to a troop or earn badges unless you want to – it’s your choice. This new approach makes it easier for girls who need to work around sports seasons or other commitments but still want to take advantage of the opportunities that scouting offers.
Registered girl scouts who want to continue to learn about science and inventing can also sign up to earn the “Inventions and Inquiry” interest badge by calling Sue Cass. Badge work will require attendance at an additional meeting and some outside preparation.
