Letter To The Editor – Watipi Building

August 21, 2009 By eastwickpress

To the Editor:
The Watipi Building in Berlin was originally set up for the Campfire Girls and Boy Scouts.  The stipulation that went with the building was that it would always be available for youth activities.  It is now also being used by the veterans, senior citizens and political functions.
It is wonderful that the building is being used a lot more, but sometimes functions overlap each other. The summer recreation program is always held the first three weeks in July. This year, there were two adult meetings at night during this time. The Republicans had their caucus, and there were no complaints from them. The seniors had their monthly dinner meeting on July 22. There were complaints from a senior.  The building had been swept and picked up as much as possible, but obviously it wasn’t good enough. Some of the children’s projects were laid out to dry. The seniors moved them and they stuck together.
We should be thankful that there is a program for the children.  There isn’t much in this area for the kids, and most people cannot afford to send their kids to summer camp, etc.  Everyone should learn to get along and respect other people’s rights and belongings.
