Dear Editor,
Too often letters placed in the paper are to voice concerns or complaints in regards to the goings on in our Eastwick communities. This letter is not intended to voice any concerns or complaints. This letter is to acknowledge, if not commend, Petersburgh’s Recreation and Swim Program that was held for our children earlier this summer.
It was evident that much work and coordination by Director Cindi Mars and the staff went into this program. My children had the opportunity to not only enjoy social interaction with well over thirty others but were engaged in learning activities in collaboration with Sharon Hodges at the Petersburgh Library Summer Program. They looked forward each morning to a day that was very structured, involving several crafts or activities, physical games, outside play and free play. Safety was obviously a priority as the doors were locked and children were signed in and out by parents or designated others. Plenty of support staff was in place to provide appropriate supervision.
The Town supplied all the children with free and nutritious lunches in addition to paying for each child to attend swimming lessons. Transportation was provided via school bus to and from the Hoosick Pool.
While many of us are tightening our belts and are feeling stressed in this struggling economy, it is refreshing and reassuring to know that our small and tight knit community still values the importance of keeping programs that enrich our children’s lives. I am grateful for our community and my children are looking forward to another great program next year!
