Joseph Hess, the guest of Denise Martin, spoke to the Kiwanis Club about his Search & Rescue training and the duties patrolling our State land. In addition to these services, Hess is training to assist with forest fires locally and in the Pacific Northwest Region. He gladly dispersed maps of the NY State lands locally and a flyer on safety, and he was an extremely interesting speaker. The Kiwanis Club thanks Joe for all the information we acquired that evening.
On Monday the NYS DEC announced that a 20-person crew of Forest Rangers and volunteers left for Fairbanks, Alaska, to help fight wildfires there. Squad Boss Joe Hess was one of the eight Forest Rangers named to spend 14 days fighting one of several ongoing fires in what’s known as the Crazy Mountain Complex.
