Approximately 190 Alumni and guests attended the 2009 Annual Walter A. Wood High School (Hoosick Falls) Alumni Reunion on Saturday, June 13, at the Pittstown Volunteer Emergency Corps. Co-chairperson Janice Tate welcomed the group, led the Pledge of Allegiance, and Charles Springer, of the Class of 1959, delivered the invocation.
Following dinner, Ronald Seifert, Master of Ceremonies, introduced Charles Springer, who then introduced members of the 50-year class who were invited this year for the first time. Included are William Austin, Catherine Brown Brownell, Kenneth Eldred, Charlene Bentley Hofensteiner, Laurence Ludwig, David Mason, Maryanne Nesbitt, Kenneth Smith, Susan Shaw Schneski, Charles Springer, Mary Lude Tudor, Carolyn White Wager, Jack Wysocki, Norma Fowler Salter, Rita Kipp Burdick and Marilyn Keyes Douglas.
Members of the 60-year class were introduced as follows: Paul Prebble, Eva Kipp Calhoun, Judy Bohmer Stewart, Margaret Dougherty Harte, Elwin (Bud) Bentley, Jr., Helen McLucas Foss and Malcolm Hall.
Attending from the 70-year class was Irene Brownell Greene. The oldest gentleman present was Bill Andrick, from Class of 1933, and from Class of 1929 was Eleanor McClure Fairbanks. Also attending were Margaret Howard Perry, class of 1931, Frank Pierce, class of 1934, Anna LeBarron Ward and Jessie Surdam Stevens, Class of 1936. Gifts were presented lo those above, and also to the graduates who traveled the farthest, Patricia Webster LeBarron, Portland, TX, and Walter Earley, Delray Beach, FL.
Thanks were given to Pittstown Volunteer Emergency Corps for the dinner. Charlotte Redden for the flowers, Charles Filkins and Philip Leonard for the programs, Helen Filkins for the name tags, Mary Cipperly, Betsy Tromans and Shirley Bulson for the favors, Norma Brenenstuhl for updating the school scrapbooks, Marge George for mailing of invitations, Betty Kipp for purchase of gifts, Ron Seifert for acting as Master of Ceremonies and Janice Tate for reservations. The Committee consists of Marge George, Betty Kipp, Janice Tate, Ron and Joyce Seifert, Helen Filkins and Doug Sherman.
The overwhelming generosity of members for donations to the Hoosick Area Church Association Food Pantry resulted in giving $1,600, which is much appreciated by the community.
