NLCSD Budget Vote Is May 19

May 15, 2009 By eastwickpress

by Fidel Moreno
The New Lebanon Central School District Budget Vote is scheduled for May 19, noon to 9 pm in the elementary school gym.
The New Lebanon Central School District administration worked hard to make sure that the estimated tax levy increase is 0.00%. This was made possible when the School Board adopted a budget with only $16,912 dollars more expenditure than last year’s adopted budget. High-five to Superintendent McGraw and her hardworking administration team and a scrutinizing Board of Education team that is diligent and committed to making sure the school is in operational order and to providing both teachers and students with educational programs at all levels and staff with appropriate support to achieve physical school functions and operations.
The drama club provided a great sneak preview of the Seussical performance scheduled for this weekend at the Walter B. Howard School on Rt. 20. The show is appropriate for all ages and is a very family friendly production with dance and song acts. The Drama club showed off its audio wireless mics as students in key production roles and characters were singing solos and duets. The wardrobe and costuming came right out of a Dr. Seuss book, very colorful and vibrant. Children will love the Seussical humor and funny dance routines.
During the public comment a gentleman requested that the School Administration and the School Board really make an extra effort to inform the public about special budget items for review and invite people to come and participate in the “open public comment” segment of the school administration’s presentation and the  School Board’s evening agenda.
There will also be, in the near future, a report on various programs that are offered in the District’s schools to youth in the area of prevention, intervention, peer support and programming activities in the areas of emotional intelligence, community wellness, teen drinking and bullying and/or school violence.
