Walk-Off Single Sinks Tigers

April 10, 2009 By eastwickpress

by Ryan Mosher

After taking an early lead against an always tough Waterford baseball team, New Lebanon allowed the Fordians to catch them and win the game in the bottom of the 7th inning.

The Tigers’ starting pitcher Ryan Lowe held Waterford scoreless for the first four innings and helped himself by singling and scoring in the top of the 4th inning.  Chris Evans also singled and scored in the inning, and Bryan Potter added a single.  After Lowe kept the Fordians off the scoreboard in the 4th, Erich Lowe walked and came around to score, stretching New Lebanon’s lead to 3-0.

In the bottom of the 5th, things would change.  The first two Waterford batters reached base and came around to score as they cut the lead to just one run.  In the 6th inning the leadoff hitter reached base and scored again as the Fordians tied the game.  In the final inning the Tigers could not get anything going and looked to shut down Waterford and send the game into extra innings.  Unfortunately for New Lebanon, the Fordians’ first batter reached base and came around to score the winning run on the next batter’s single.  The final score was Waterford 4, New Lebanon 3.
