To The Editor,
I am saddened and angered that in a few months the Stephentown Elementary School is slated to be closed. This is being done without a vote by those of us who are paying taxes. It is being done on the vote of four School Board members and by the recommendation of an Interim Superintendent who has no ties with this community. Shouldn’t a decision as major as this be decided by a vote of the entire District?
Our taxes will be going up and yet we will be without a community school. We are told of the money it will save. We are NOT told of the money it will cost to add on or build new at Berlin Elementary. The cost will far exceed the savings. I believe that we as taxpayers should be allowed to vote on this matter before our school is closed. I hope others feel that they deserve a voice in this matter also.
