Grafton – Dolores A. Gapp Crandall, 80, of Taconic Lake Road, Grafton, NY, died peacefully at her daughter’s home on Friday morning, January 16, 2009, under the care of Community Hospice of Rensselaer County.
Born April 12, 1928, in Troy, NY, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Marion Foley Gapp. She was the loving wife of the late Jesse B. Crandall, Jr., who died on December 19, 2006. They were married in St. Mary’s Rectory in Troy on April 3, 1948. Mrs. Crandall has lived in Grafton since the age of 16 and was a communicant of St. John Francis Regis Roman Catholic Church.
A 1946 graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy, Mrs. Crandall worked for New York Telephone before getting married and raising her family. She worked for a few years at the Grafton Elementary School in the 1960s. She was an avid bowler and had a green thumb. She loved her flower garden especially the morning glories.
She was the loving mother of Jesse B. Crandall III and his wife JoAnn of Grafton, Philip A. Crandall and wife Laura of Ravena, NY, Mary A. and husband Roger Gentner and Michael J. and wife Sharon Crandall Sr., all of Grafton, Peter J. and wife Maury Crandall of Brunswick, NY, Madonna M. and husband Pete Roy of Grafton, the adored sister of John “Jack” and wife Janice Gapp of Brunswick, Sharon Coultry of Grafton and Madonna and husband Frank Kreiger of Virginia. Mrs. Crandall is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Dolores A. Crandall.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 24, at 10 am in the St. John Francis Regis Roman Catholic Church, Owen Road, Grafton, where Rev. Kenneth Gregory will officiate. Inurnment will follow in the Meadowlawn Cemetery in Petersburgh, NY.
