Letter To The Editor – Funding Of The PVMCC

November 7, 2008 By eastwickpress

To the Editor:

I am writing in response to the Petersburgh budget meeting that was reported in the Eastwick Press last week. I would like to thank the Board for their support of the Seniors, Youth and the ‘as needed’ support of the Petersburgh Veterans Hall.

I commend the Town Board in their attempt to keep the taxes down. My family has paid taxes in this town for many generations, and I know it can be tough to stay ahead of the taxes. I have seen the struggle of those who are trying to keep the old family farm in the family. And those who have bought homes here but now have to spend twice as much to get to work. I know many folks are scraping to get by, and the cold months with the holidays are looming ahead.

As a member of the Board of PVMCC, I want the Town taxpayers to know that one of the goals of PVMCC is to become self-sustaining. I thank the Petersburgh taxpayers in their support of the cost of the renovations. In addition to this support, our Board President has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars through grants. However, these can not be used to pay utilities. For those who have a little disposable income, please consider supporting your community center. We offer a variety of fund-raising programs. Our Veterans Hall CafÄ will open next week. Your patronage in any form would be appreciated. With your support we can become self-supporting.

Sincerely,

Mary Lou Walters
