A rumor that the mothballed Stephentown Elementary School property has been sold, is just that, a rumor.
[private]“The Stephentown School has not been sold yet,” confirmed Berlin Central School District Superintendent Dr Stephen Young in an email December 21. “We are in the process of removing contents and hope to have it sold soon.”
The idea that the property was about to change hands came up at a New Lebanon Town Board meeting on December 8. The BCS District had offered the playground equipment at Stephentown Elementary to the Town of New Lebanon with the provision that the equipment must be removed by December 31. The deadline fueled perceptions that the property was to change hands as of January 1, 2016.
“The BCSD BOE approved to give the playground equipment to New Lebanon at the last BOE meeting.” wrote Dr. Young. “We are glad we can assist a neighboring town and its park.”
The Stephentown property, closed in 2009, had previously been the subject of an offer in June 2015 for $35,000.
The Grafton Elementary School, closed in 2010, is also “in the same situation” added Dr. Young and “not sold yet.”[/private]
