A two car accident at the intersection of Route 7 and 279 sent multiple people to the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center Tuesday afternoon at 5:30 pm.
[private]The collision, between a Toyota Corolla and a Hyundai Elantra, occurred when the Elantra pulled out of Route 7 into the path of the eastbound Corolla. The collision sent both cars toward the ditch.
There were three women in the Elantra and what appeared to be a family of two adults and three children in the Corolla. Two of the three women in the Elantra were transported to SVWMC, and possibly four of the five in the Corolla were transported. At least two of the people transported may have had undetermined internal injuries. Police were trying to determine the extent of injuries to see how much of an investigation was necessary. Route 279 was closed, and traffic was diverted on Route 7 into Bennington.
The Hoosick Falls, Bennington and Deerfield Valley Rescue Squads responded to the scene. Police agencies responding were Hoosick Falls Police, Rensselaer County Sheriff and Town of Bennington Police.
