HAYC3 Willing To Step Up And Take Over The Armory

“If the Town is not willing to purchase the Armory,” said HAYC3 Director Aelish Nealon, “then, as a backup plan, HAYC3 (Hoosick Area Youth Center and Community Coalition) is willing to step up and take ownership.” Nealon added that HAYC3 is a community based not-for-profit organization that is concerned with the welfare of the entire Hoosick community. “We don’t want to see the building be empty,” she said. HAYC3 is waiting to hear what sort of decision the Hoosick Town Board makes at its next regular meeting on Monday, May 14, before going any further with a plan.

BCS Bond: Déjà Vu All Over Again

Bond authorization for the Capital Project approved by Berlin School District voters in December came up once again at the School Board meeting on Tuesday and once again failed to get the required super-majority fifth vote. Board Members Gina Goodermote, Frank Zwack, Rachel Finney and James Willis voted in favor of proceeding with authorizing the bond, but Beverly Stewart and John Nash could not be moved. Board Member Alan Webster Jr. was absent.

After Lawsuit HFCS Reinstates Dennis James

The Hoosick Falls School Board reinstated a member of the District’s custodial staff, Dennis James, after his attorney successfully challenged his dismissal in court, and the District was ordered to impose a less severe penalty.

Provost Road Gets Face Lift

Provost Road in Stephentown is getting a face lift. The road has figured in a lot of discussion at Town Board meetings in recent years. Residents complaining of dust and high traffic because of people using it as a shortcut between Routes 43 and 22 were successful back in 2004 in having the road designated one way. Six years later the Town Board returned it to two way traffic. For various reasons, including the traffic, it has been a difficult road to maintain properly.

New Town Of Grafton Website In The Works

At a Special Grafton Town Board Meeting held on Wednesday, April 18, the Board met to discuss creating a new web site for the Town. Town Supervisor Ray Darling was unable to attend the meeting so it was run by Deputy Supervisor Cathy Goyer.

Heavenly Quilters Raise $1,200 For Stephentown Library

Stephentown resident Andrea Beckwith was the winner of the Heavenly Quilters’ annual Quilt Raffle but the community, through the Stephentown Memorial Library, was also a big time winner. The Quilters held their drawing on Tuesday morning at the Federated Church’s Pearce Hall. The beautiful 102 x 106 inch sampler quilt goes to Beckwith and $1,200 in proceeds from the raffle goes to the Library.
