The Stephanie Flint Book Club has donated four books to the Berlin Library in memory of their friend and member, Els Murray, who died this past summer. Free Throws Push Panthers To Victory In Triple OT

After watching the first quarter of Tuesday night’s Hoosick Falls versus Stillwater matchup, you would not think a close game was a possibility, let alone a triple overtime nail-biter. That’s what happened though as the Warriors battled back from an early double digit deficit to give the spectators in Hoosick Falls a little extra basketball.

Mountaineers Overcome Slow Start To Top Heatly

The Berlin boys basketball team seemed to start a little flat on Monday night against Heatly. The Mountaineers were outplayed in the first quarter, allowing the Hornets to capitalize on second and third shot opportunities by not boxing out and by getting out rebounded. Despite all that, Berlin still was able to stay close, trailing 16-14 after one quarter.

Panther Bowlers Win Four
On Thursday, December 15, the HFCS bowling team won a tri-match against North Warren, 4-0, and Lake George, 4-0. The total match pin count was Hoosick Falls – 3,803 to North Warren’s 2,524 and Lake George’s 2,724. Kelsey O’Dell – VFW Voice Of Democracy

Kelsey O’Dell, daughter of Lecia and Larry O’Dell of Petersburgh, has been selected as the winner of the Berlin High School Voice of Democracy Essay Contest. Since 1947 the Voice of Democracy has been the premier scholarship program of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Each year more than 50,000 high school students compete for more than $2.3 million in scholarships and incentives. Students compete by writing and recording a broadcast script on an annual patriotic theme. This year’s theme is, “Is there pride in serving in our military?”

Stephentown Book Group January Meeting
The Stephentown Library Book Discussion Group will read House Rules by Jodi Picoult for its meeting on Thursday, January 5. Jacob, a teenager with asperger’s syndrome, is obsessed with forensic analysis and accused of murder. The book explores the intolerance and misunderstanding that he and his mother and brother endure as the case develops and goes to trial.
Meetings are held in the Community Room at the Stephentown Memorial Library, Main Street, Stephentown, from noon to 1 pm. Bring a lunch if you like. Copies of the book are available at the library desk. New readers are always welcome. For more information, call 518-733-5750.
Poestenkill Historical Society Holiday Party
The Poestenkill Historical Society will be hosting its Annual Holiday Party on December 27 in the Poestenkill Town Hall (RT 351) at 7 pm.
