At dawn on Monday morning, April 11, the Cumberland Farms store in Hoosick Falls closed for renovations. It will reopen on Tuesday, May 10. In 30 days, 21 working days, subtle changes outside and big changes inside have taken place. It is not surprising so much happened so quickly. Hordes of plumbers, electricians and carpenters and all their equipment arrived on that first Monday morning to begin the changes. Large trailer trucks often blocked one lane of Church Street as equipment was loaded or unloaded. Tractor trailer-sized dumpsters were filled and hauled away. A new cement walkway in front of the store and along the side of the building was poured. A cement gasoline pad was broken up and replaced. A new blacktop surface has been laid.
A peek into the building showed new windows, new coolers in the same place as the old ones, but otherwise a completely new set up. On Wednesday evening it looked like the interior had a way to go yet. There is no doubt the bulk of the Chill Zone for cold drinks and the special coffee bar section, frosty shake machine and the cases for the freshly prepared foods are in place. What the inside needs is the finishing touches. Undoubtedly those touches will be completed in the next few days. Fast work!
