On July 17 rain and 80 mile per hour winds whipped through Aqua Vista Campground in Petersburgh. “The weatherman told us the eye of the storm was right here,” said Lee Weliczka. She and her husband Mike Weliczka own and operate the campground with their little daughter Anika.
Many families were affected and their cars and trailers damaged, she said. “Luckily many people were at a dance in the Rec Hall at the time and no one was injured.” Lee has been impressed with the number of people who have turned out from the Capital Region and North Bennington to cut trees and help restore order to the park.
To help the families affected by the storm Aqua Vista will be holding a Community Benefit on Sunday, September 5, Labor Day weekend, from 3 to 6 pm. The Benefit will be held at the Upper Rec Hall of the Campground, 72 Armsby Road, Petersburgh. The Rec Hall is the big blue building on the hill.
Tickets are $15 a person and include admission and all you can eat and drink. Children five and under enter free. Tickets are available at the Campground store/office or by calling 658-3659.
There will be over 50 raffle drawings with gift cards from local businesses and large ticket items such as a flat screen TV, 2011 seasonal lot rent, a AAA vacation and much more. The raffle drawing will begin at 5:30 pm, and you do not have to be present to win.
