The Rensselaer County Health Department is urging residents to take precautions to prevent exposure to tick borne diseases including Lyme, Anaplasmosis, and Babesiosis.
The warning stems from a significant increase in the number of cases of Anaplasmosis found in Rensselaer County in 2015 particularly in the Hoosick Falls/Petersburgh region. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) hosted scoping meetings in Rensselaer County on July 14 and 15. The meetings’ purpose was to gather information on the scope of adverse environmental impacts that the Northeast Energy Direct (NED) pipeline project may have on water, air, farms, historic preservation, wildlife, trees, green fields, health, safety and on the socio-economic status of residents and their communities. Free Breakfast & Lunch for kids – through July 31. We are pleased to have been chosen as a feeding site for this federally funded program. We will be serving a healthy breakfast and lunch each weekday. Breakfast will be from 8:30 -9:30 am and Lunch will be from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm in the community room. There is no charge and no income or residency requirement. All children under age 18 are encouraged to take advantage of this program. Rensselaer County Executive Kathleen M. Jimino recently announced the start of the County’s Summer Food Program, which is a collaborative effort by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the New York State Education Department, and Rensselaer County that provides the opportunity for children under the age of eighteen to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session. Rensselaer County has sponsored the program since 1974.
“A well balanced diet is crucial to the health of every child and this program ensures that the youth of our community who depend on their schools for their nutrition have access to well balanced meals throughout the summer,” stated Jimino.
