Leonard F. Clapp Jr. – Obituary

Berlin – Sgt. First Class (Ret.) Leonard F. Clapp, Jr., US Army, 75, died unexpectedly at home on June 13th, 2023. He was born on February 2nd, 1948 in Mamaroneck, NY, son of the late Leonard F. Clapp and H. Jean Platt Clapp.

Len retired after 22 years in the army in 1995. He served in Vietnam, Korea, Germany, and Hawaii. He had over 40 years in 2 fire departments; 28 years with Berlin Volunteer Fire Department and the rest with Pleasantville Fire Department. He worked as highway superintendent in Berlin and for the Water Departments in Berlin and Poestenkill. He was a member of the American Legion Post 937 and served as commander at the time of his death. He was a member of the Lions club in Pleasantville and also served as district governor.

He was the husband of Sharon A. (Weaver) Clapp; brother of Robert (Darcy) Clapp; and uncle to Christopher and Alyssa. He is also survived by his cousins and many good friends, especially a family from Long Island: Lou, Terry, and Tara. They accepted him with open arms into their family and they will miss him greatly.

Services were held in June as he was interred with honors in the Saratoga National Cemetery. Any donation in Len’s memory can be made to the American Legion Post 937 at PO Box 427, Berlin, NY 12022.
