The Mountaineers started the week off right with a win over New Lebanon. The first quarter set the pace for the game with Berlin getting 23 points.  Berlin got another 23 in the 2nd quarter to finish the half 46-24.  Berlin stayed in charge of play adding 18 and 17 points in the last 2 quarters ending the game with 81 points.

The team has been averaging 70 points a game and could finish in the top 5 of Section II top scoring teams if they keep it up.  The team did a good job playing their game and staying consistent. Curtis and DePaolis each had 18 points. Seel added 14 and sophomore Ryan Shumway had 10 points.

A Loss At Heatly

Friday saw Berlin travel to Heatly. The Mountaineers needed a win to secure their place in the league standings and land a good rating for the Sectionals.  The first quarter showed that both coaching staffs had done their jobs and found chinks in each other’s games. Both teams traded the lead back and forth, but Heatly earned the last bucket and took the lead 19-18.

The second quarter held a few missed opportunities and displayed stronger defense on both sides.  Both teams showed frustration and disappointment on the way into the locker rooms with the score 28-32 in Heatly’s favor.  Berlin outscored Heatly in the third quarter by 3 points but lost focus going into the fourth and fell further behind after a series of turnovers and missed shots.  Heatly’s outside shooting fired up, and, after the referees missed Berlin trying to call a timeout, the resulting turnover seemed to deflate Berlin, and Heatly rolled to a 79-63 win. DePaolis was Berlin’s top scorer with 17 points, 8 rebounds. Rokjer followed with 14 points.

Heatly had the top scorers of the game – Horton with 31 points (5 threes) and Chapman with 30.
