Thursday, March 16, 1854: Today Capt. Tanner the butcher and his brother Benj. Tanner, they came and I sold them a steer and heifer that was stall fed that was John F.’s, he was gone to R. A. Brown’s store to return boosums that my family made for him. Said Tanner paid 57 dol and 50 cts for said fat cattle. Today Geo P. walked to Pittsfield to look at working oxen to buy but he did not buy any.
Saturday: I am quite lame. Today quite snow squally.
Monday: John F. went with my horse and wagon to Pittsfield and carried ten bushels apples and sold six bushel at one dollar per and sold four bushel at 63 cts per, and sold 30 cabbages for one dol and 50 cts and sold one bushel onions for 56 cts and paid six dollars for two bushels timothy seed, and paid 13 cts per pound for 60 pounds big clover seed, and he paid 63 cts for a keg of oysters. This afternoon Mr. Amos Chapman visited us and took dinner and supper. James McFeelie froze and died today.
Wednesday: John F. sold to R.A. Brown’s store seven dozen eggs at 15 cts in trade and got groceries. Two dozen broke in carrying. Today I walked over to Joshua B. Maxon’s to the vendue of his son Wm B. Maxon. I did not buy anything. While I was there I was taken quite unwell with my old complaint of lameness and I returned home.
Thursday: I am quite lame and do not tend to the chores as usual. Today John F. tended to the chores and rode his horse to Lebanon to the vendue of Mr. Parsons.
Monday: John F. did part of his chores and he rode his horse to Williamstown to try to buy a match to his horse but could not.
Tuesday: My two sons went to Berlin to try to buy cattle. Geo P. went with his horse and wagon.
Wednesday: My two sons returned home but did not buy any cattle.
Thursday: Today John F. went to Albany with my horse and Geo P. horse and my two horse wagon, he carried 18 bushels of his potatoes and sold them at 88 cts per bushel.
Friday: Tonight at midnight John F. returned home from Albany and fetched 18 cwt weight of plaster at six dollars and fifty cts per cwt.
