Friday, February 3, 1854: My two sons drew each a load of ice from Conklin mill pond, and Geo P. slipped into the water and wet him bad, it being quite cold day.
Saturday: John F. took his horse and wagon and carried our carrot seed to the Church family of the Shakers to have cleaned but they would not clean it and he fetched it home again. Today Mr. King from Canaan came to look at John F. fat cattle but did not bargain, he took dinner with us.
Monday: Today Geo P. starts on foot to go north perhaps into Vermont to engage to sell apple trees. Today John F. drew two loads stone onto my Rodgers farm and drew home two loads alder wood.
Thursday: I am some unwell. Today brother Simeon Wylie visited us.
Friday: This afternoon Doctor George Dixon’s wife and sister visited us and he called and took tea at evening. My daughter Sarah O. rode home with Doctor Dixon and wife and went to meeting with them this evening.
Saturday: I am quite lame, I did not do any chores. John F. took his horse and wagon and fetched Sarah home from Doctor Dixon’s and left 49 pounds tallow to Gustus Rollo’s to be made in candles.
Sunday: John F. drove Geo P. cow home that was hooked in the head by my ox.
Tuesday: Today a Shaker by the name of Pearson that belongs to Daniel Haskins family called to buy turnips but we had none to sell, he took home our carrot seed to clean.
Friday, Feb. 17: This afternoon Geo P. returned home from the north, that is from Vermont engaging apple trees, Mr. Moses came with him and stayed tonight on his way to Canaan, he lives in Petersburgh. Geo P. bought 4 cows of him and drove them as far as Berlin to Mr. — and left them on account it being icy and slippery. Geo P. paid in cash to Mr. Moses one hundred and five dollars.
Monday: Today John F. sold his yoke of fat oxen to a man by the name of Johnson for 182½ dollars and delivered them to the west part of New Lebanon to Mr. Milo Bull’s in company with a yoke of fat oxen that Joshua B. Maxon sold to the same man for 184 dollars and said Maxon’s son John Henry went to drive them to said Bull’s. Today Geo P. returned home with his wife from her Father’s where she has been for four weeks.
