Saturday, October 22, 1853: Quite rainy, this forenoon John F. went to N. Harrison’s cider mill and got the last of the cider which was nine barrels and paid said Harrison for the making 56 cts. Today I paid Patrick two dollars cash.
Monday: This morning John F. went into John Merrils to get his children to come pick up apples and Burr Calhoon met him with a stone in his hand and pounded John on the head and knocked him down and cut a gash on side of the head and the blood gushed from the wound which was painful and today quite a snow storm and tonight we put our oxen and cows in the stable.
Tuesday: We this forenoon got butternut bark to color carpet yarn and sorted potatoes. I took one horse wagon and carried my wife to Geo P.’s and left her on a visit, John F. fetched her home and we got carrots in the celler that John Merrils raised to the halves.
Wednesday: I this forenoon went to Palmer Barnes and carried him 11 ½ bushels carrots at 25 cts per and four bushel potatoes at 37 ½ cts per.
Thursday: Quite rainy. I and Patrick husked corn in the barn. John F. is unwell.
Friday: John F. and Patrick pulled turnips and towards night John F. went to Lebanon with turnips.
Saturday: John F. went to Hancock with turnips. Today I tended to chores and gathered a few apples and Patrick dug potatoes on my Rodgers farm and the boy of James McFeelie picked up the potatoes
Tuesday: We drew in John F. corn, and today I paid Patrick Rafferty two dollars cash and he did not work, he went to the Catholic meeting.
Saturday: I this forenoon went onto the hill and woods to look for my hogs that had got out, and while I was looking for them they came home. Patrick plowed part of the forenoon for Geo P. with my horse and Geo P. horse but he could not plow and quit and then I and Patrick took my one horse wagon and drew in my half of the carrots that John Merrils raised to the halves in my young orchard, 42 bushels.
Monday: This forenoon John F. moved John Norton from the Russel Palmer house that Doctor Graves owns and said Norton paid John F. one dollar and fifty cts for moving him.
