HVCC Becomes Part of UNESCO-UNEVOC

Congratulations to Hudson Valley Community College on becoming the first community college in the United States to become part of the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for TVET. The UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for TVET includes 231 educational centers located in 150 countries across the globe. The program includes knowledge exchange, shared resources, peer learning, international collaboration, shared research, and combined resources to strengthen and support education.

Baby Cafe Grand Opening

On Wednesday, April 10th, Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC) held a special grand opening celebration of its Baby Café, a program offered for new parents through SVMC’s Women’s and Children’s Services (WCS). The Baby Café is a free, drop-in, informal breastfeeding support group offering ongoing professional lactation care and intervention.

Nassau Annual Tailgate Sale
On Saturday, April 27th, from 8 am to noon, come to the 13th Annual Tailgate Sale held at the Town of Nassau Highway Garage, 599 Central Nassau Road, East Nassau. A tailgate sale is where buyers and sellers meet to sell/trade in the back of their vehicle such items as farm products, chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, piglets, goats, sheep, vegetable plants, flowers, berry plants, maple syrup, crafts, and other local products. Admission is free, and there are no vendor fees.

Mom’s Day Off Raises $12,000

Bromley Mountain’s 21st annual “Mom’s Day Off” fundraiser set a new record this year, raising $12,000 to benefit breast cancer care at the Dartmouth Cancer Center at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC).
Recently retired Bromley General Manager (GM) Bill Cairns and incoming GM Josh Witkin recently presented a check to President and CEO of SVMC Thomas A. Dee, FACHE, on Thursday, March 28th, at the ski resort.

Honoring a Local Hero

On Monday, April 8th, veterans, residents, family, and friends joined with elected officials to remember the life and service of the late Thomas William "Bill" Killian at the monthly Honor a Deceased Veteran ceremony.
Bill served with the U.S. Navy during the Cold War for twenty years from the 1950s through 1971. He worked as a shipfitter, helping with the crucial job of repairing ships and returning them to active front-line duty.

Open House and Recruitment Drive
The Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department will hold an open house and recruitment drive on Saturday, April 13th, from 10 am to 2 pm at the fire station on State Route 43. The event will highlight the duties and rewards that come with being a volunteer. There will be hands-on demonstrations of equipment, blood pressure checks, and face painting for children. Hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks will be available, as well as a Cantering Cowpokes bake sale.

Saturday, May 4th, from 9 am to noon, the Friends of the Poestenkill Library will be hosting a Market Day fundraiser on the library grounds. Join us to make your selections from the many books for sale. Bring your own bag and fill it with books for only $5, or buy a Friends of the Poestenkill Library bag for $1.
