PTA Receives Stewart’s Holiday Match Grant to Support Elementary Science Curriculum

The Hoosick Falls Central School PTA recently received a $1,000 grant through Stewart’s Holiday Match program, an organization that recognizes and supports children’s programs throughout the communities it serves. [private]

The Hoosick Falls Central School’s PTA is donating the grant to support the Hoosick Falls Elementary School as it launches a new science curriculum for Kindergarten through 6th grade students.  The Next Generation Science Standards, recently adopted by the New York State Department of Education, covers three content areas (Life Sciences, Physical Sciences and Earth & Space Sciences) in three cycles.

Patrick Dailey, Director of Curriculum, Assessment, & Instruction, was thrilled when he heard the news, “The administration at HFCS has been gearing up for the changes over the past year while aligning its curriculum to the new standards and getting materials ready to begin implementation over the next two years. Needless to say, adjusting to the updated standards will require a significant shift in how we approach the sciences as we do not have access to all the materials in the Elementary school to implement such a broad plan all at one time. This donation will allow us to purchase a full set of materials for use with an entire grade.”

The HFCS PTA is pleased to support the HFCS Elementary School in requesting this grant on the school’s behalf.  [/private]
