This year Operation Christmas Cookie is starting its ninth year of sending packages of homemade cookies to troops overseas during the holiday!
Operation Christmas Cookie is coordinated by Boy Scout Pack 6064 and Daisy Troop 1227. It was originally begun in 2007 by Suzanne Fitzpatrick whose son was then stationed in Kandahar. [private]She wanted to send him some cookies so that he could share a bit of the ‘holidays at home’ spirit with his unit. She enlisted the help of family, friends and community members and Operation Christmas Cookie was born. Since then over 3,400 packages of cookies have been sent to our service men and women overseas.
This year, we will be sending our packages to a Navy unit stationed on the USS San Antonio and Wounded Warriors.
If you would like to donate cookies for this event, we will be packing the cookies Friday night, December 2 at 5 pm at the HAYC3 Armory. (There will be a table in the Perry Room for earlier drop offs.) Saturday, they will be in the mail.
No special containers are necessary. Cookies can be dropped off in ziplock bags or disposable containers. Firm or crisp cookies travel best. Fudge, wrapped candy or gum are great too. Anything that will give them a taste of home at the holidays and show our support for them.
Monetary donations are always great and help with shipping and supply costs. For more information, you can contact HAYC3 at 686-9050. The HAYC3 Armory is located at 80 Church Street in Hoosick Falls, NY.[/private]
