Hoosick Falls – Reverend Philip Garippa, 90, passed away on Saturday December 19, 2015 at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls. He was the husband of the late Elaine (Capwell) Garippa.
[private]Philip was born on June 16, 1925, in Hornell, New York, son of the late Orizia and Theresa (Giordano) Garippa. He served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific, during WWII. Philip received his Master’s Degree in Education. In his earlier years he taught at Brockton Massachusetts Elementary School, also at Berlin, and in the Mechanicville Schools, where he also served as Principal. He was also an ordained minister, serving churches in the area for forty-two years. Philip started the Assembly of God Church in North Hoosick, now known as the Cornerstone Fellowship Church. In his retirement he also served at the North Hoosick Methodist Church and the North Petersburgh Church.
Philip is survived by his children, Lydia Denue of Watervliet, NY, Lois (Reverend Michael) Benoit of Hoosick Falls, NY, Stephen (Laurie) Garippa of Texas, Scott Garippa of Hoosick Falls, and Barbie Hannon of Cambridge, NY. He is also survived by his sisters Dr. Lydia Buza of Syracuse, NY, Helen Capizzano of Colonia, NJ and Christine Eleiott of The Villages, FL, brothers Johnathan Garippa of Dover, DE and Moses Garippa of Wayland, NY, along with fifteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Philip was predeceased by a daughter Lisa Tomczak, sisters Ann Bruno, Mary Pardine and brothers Abraham and David Garippa.
Funeral services were held Wednesday December 23, at 10 am from the Cornerstone Fellowship Church on Route 22 in North Hoosick, with his son-in-law Rev. Michael Benoit officiating. Burial followed the service at Maple Grove Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.
Relatives and friends called at the Mahar Funeral Home in Hoosick Falls on Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Cornerstone Fellowship Church or the Karen & Molly McGovern Memorial Fund through the funeral home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, New York.[/private]
