Petersburgh – Carl I. Boomhower, 76, died Sunday, January 11, 2015, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT, with his family at his side. Born in Troy, NY, on May 28, 1938, he was the son of the late Donald C. and Carolyn Bonesteel Boomhower. Carl was raised in Grafton, NY, and was a graduate of Berlin High School. He had resided in Petersburgh, NY, for the past 50 years and was known around Petersburgh as “Old Man Boom.”
Carl was employed by Republic Steel and the Pownal Tannery and was a bartender at the Lamp Post in Berlin, NY. Most recently he was a machinist at Atlantis Equipment in Stephentown, NY.
Carl enjoyed Indian crafts and was an historian of the Civil War and the Revolutionary War.
Carl is the beloved husband of Shirley A. Brock Boomhower, devoted father of Jacqueline Brand, Brenda Renec, Claude Boomhower, Karen Alderman, Christine Boomhower, Lynn Boomhower and Peter Boomhower and brother of Donna Walker, Claudia Gilbert and the late Gary Boomhower. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Wednesday, January 14, at 12 noon at the Petersburgh Methodist Church in Petersburgh with calling from 11 am to 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family.
