A home at 27 Hampton Street in Hoosick was destroyed after fire broke out around 8:30 pm Saturday evening. The home was totally ablaze when firefighters arrived after the mutual alarm went out. It is believed the fire started in the chimney area of a fireplace. The home was located in the Clay Hill area just outside the Village of Hoosick Falls.
[private]No one was injured as the owner, Laura Peabody, safely escaped. However, everything the family owned was lost. Her cat and rabbit did not survive. Peabody’s eight year old daughter was not at home at the time.
Firefighters from Hoosick Falls, West Hoosick, Hoosick, North Hoosick, Cambridge and Pittstown responded. Over 50 volunteer firefighters were on the scene. The Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad also responded.
Everything was lost. Peabody even has to have a new car key made, at a cost of more than $200, because her key melted into her pocketbook and is unusable.
If you would like to help Laura, her telephone number is 944-4971. She has received clothing but needs almost everything else. The Hoosick Area Church Association has set up an account to receive funds to help. Checks can be made out to HACA. Please put – 11/22 Fire Relief Fund – on the memo line. The address to mail the check is HACA, P.O. Box 1, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090.
