According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Department website, Sheriff Jeffrey Murphy reported that the Washington County Sheriff’s Office investigated a one car personal injury motor vehicle accident at 3:52 pm on Monday, April 21.
[private]The report states the accident happened on State Route 22 in the Town of White Creek. “The vehicle, a 2013 Nissan Sentra, driven by Mr. Donald Bogardus, 82, of Hoosick Falls was northbound when the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle went into a ditch hitting a culvert, then became airborne rolling over and landing on its roof.”
Bogardus and his wife Esther, 83, were extracted from the vehicle by the Cambridge Fire Department. Mrs. Bogardus was airlifted to Albany Medical Center by Life Net Helicopter with head injuries and difficulty breathing. Mr. Bogardus was transported by Cambridge Rescue Squad to Albany Medical Center with head injuries.
The accident was investigated by Deputy Britany Bristol, Deputy Todd Riche and Senior Investigator Bruce Hamilton. Also assisting at the scene were the Cambridge Fire Department, the Cambridge Rescue Squad and the Cambridge Police Department.
The couple are well know figures in the Hoosick Falls community. Don Bogardus was Village Mayor for 17 years. He is a member of the American Legion and for many years has been in charge of the Memorial Day parade and events.
According to their son-in-law, Jeff Loomis, the couple are in separate rooms at the hospital and in stable condition.
