On Saturday, January 25, a group of volunteers gathered at the Armory to get the Hoosick Barn Quilt Project underway. Those volunteers included Linda Redden, Carol Gatus, Kathy Andritz, Ric, Alex and Suzanne DiDonato, Carol Gaillard, Jane Verdarosa, Joe and Faye MacDonald, Dave Kipp, Brian Bushner and HAYC3 staff members Aaron Buzzinski, Chris Mead and Patti Zilinskas.
[private]Frames were made and two 4×8 foot sheets of plywood were screwed into the frames forming an 8×8 foot square, the perfect size for painting a quilt square to hang on a barn. Once the square was put together, then others placed a coat of primer on them.
All in all, twenty squares were put together and painted Saturday morning. Those twenty squares still need two more coats of primer before designs can be placed on them.
HAYC3 is in the process of putting together applications for ordering one of the primed squares. Anyone in the Town of Hoosick, including the Village, interested in putting up a Barn Quilt should contact HAYC3.
Individuals may purchase and paint his or her own Barn Quilt and then be listed in a booklet that will be available in the fall. If someone wants to put up a Barn Quilt but does not have the means to purchase materials, then sponsors may be found to cover the cost.
More information will be available in the weeks to come. This is a community-wide project that should bring visitors into our area once the Quilts are in place. Be a part of this exciting project!
Barn Quilt displays are popular in many parts of the Country, but there are no displays in this area. Hoosick will be the first![/private]
