Shirley and Ivan Wager appeared a bit overwhelmed by the standing ovation given them at the conclusion of a ceremony that included the presentation of plaques and certificates from the U.S. Congress, the NYS Senate and Assembly, Rensselaer County, the Town of Berlin and several Firefighting organizations. In expressing his appreciation to the large crowd gathered at the Berlin Fire House on Saturday, September 22, Ivan Wager told them Shirley’s thoughts on their years of service. The Presentation Of Options For The Village Of Hoosick Falls Dissolution Plan

Residents of the Village of Hoosick Falls are invited to a public meeting on Wednesday, October 10, for a presentation of the Committee’s Options for the Future of Hoosick Falls, including a description of options for potential dissolution of the Village. Berlin Town Board Action, Part Two – How To Replace The Berlin Bank Of America

The Town of Berlin is changing willy-nilly. At the Town Board meeting on Thursday, September 13, the future of the Watipi Building was discussed. This was followed by an open discussion at the end of the meeting concerning the recent news that the Bank of America is leaving Berlin. Berliners expressed their disappointment with Bank of America. Jim Anders asked Jaeger if there was any interest by another bank in taking over the BoA building and services. Jaeger said he had made some calls. Hoosick Planning Board Meets And Approves Two Simple Subdivisions

Edward Hanselman and his son appeared before the Board at its special meeting on Monday, September 25, regarding 17 acres on Bovie Hill Road. The Board first approved a boundary line adjustment on the property and then approved the division of the property into two lots for a simple subdivision. Paul Lemperle appeared before the Board regarding 17 acres on Babcock Lake Road. The Board approved the division of the property into two lots making it a simple subdivision.

HFCS Finds New Money

Hoosick Falls Schools Superintendent Ken Facin said at the September meeting of the Hoosick Falls School Board that he had received a letter containing an additional $15,000 in State aid for the District for “general purposes,” which he found both pleasing and puzzling. He suggested to the Board that one possible use for the new money would be to turn the very popular lacrosse club into a varsity sport. There was some discussion about this, but no decision was made.

Stephentown Man Stabs His Brother

The New York State Police out of Schodack arrested Christopher Beckwith, 28, of Stephentown for Assault 1st and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd, both felonies.
At approximately 4 am on Saturday, September 22, State Police responded to a 911 call at a Sutherland Road address in the town of Stephentown for a reported disturbance and learned that a person had been stabbed with a knife. The subsequent investigation revealed that Christopher Beckwith and his brother Jacob Beckwith, 33, also of Stephentown, had gotten into a verbal argument at a party at the Sutherland Road address. Hoosick Falls Man Arrested For Rape

On Monday, September 24, at around 3:30 pm the Hoosick Falls Police Department responded to a reported unknown problem at a residence on Church Street in Hoosick Falls. Upon the arrival of patrols, a 21 year old man was located in a bedroom. The male subject refused to exit the bedroom and, after a brief struggle, was placed under arrest. An underage female was located and as a result of the investigation it was determined that the male subject did have sexual intercourse with her.

“Everything happens for a reason,” said Mike Bacon, standing at the entrance of his state of the art 5,000 square foot business office, garage and repair shop on South Street in Hoosick. It was almost two years ago he got a call that there was a damaging fire at his former Spicer Road location. Bacon took what was a business setback and used it as an opportunity to develop the 100 acre property he owned on South Street. “We needed space for equipment and expansion,” he said. “And this was the ideal spot.” It was an opportunity for him to build the operation he always dreamed of building in the town where he grew up, where he started his logging and excavation business. Pumpkinpalooza This Weekend And The Gnome Is Found

Pumpkinpalooza 4 takes place this weekend with a cornucopia of activities in Hoosick Falls, mostly in Wood Park, starting at 8 am and lasting until 11 pm. There is fun for everyone. As part of Pumpkinpalooza 4 HAYC3 invited residents to search for and find the hidden Gnome. On Saturday the finder of the little guy will receive $250.

Girl Scout Spelunking Adventure

Stephentown Senior Girl scout Troop 1120 recently spent the afternoon crawling, climbing and swimming through deep underground caves during a spelunking adventure at the Natural Stone Bridge Caves in Pottersville, NY.
