Helen Ellett celebrated her 98th birthday last Thursday, February 16. In a pre-birthday celebration some friends took her to lunch at the Brunswick Barbecue and Brew on Route 2 in Brunswick last Saturday.

The Bands For St. Patrick’s Day In Hoosick Falls
The Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee has announced the list of bands confirmed so far for the March 17, 21st Annual Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Returning is the Excelsior Drum Corps of Troy, the Capitol Brass Drum Corps of Albany, Galloway Gaelic Pipes and Drums of Glens Falls, Fyfes and Drums of Olde Saratoga and The Taconic Pipe Band of Hoosick Falls.
After the parade the annual Irish Festival will be held at the Hoosick Falls Armory. The Irish band Triskile will perform until 4 pm. Enjoy a combined concert of the Taconic and Galloway Gaelic Pipe’s and Drums. The Jones Family will entertain with Irish dance. Great Irish food and drink will be on sale. Admission is $5 for adults; kids enter free. For more information contact Kevin O’Malley at 518-686-9460.

Hoosick Grange News – 2/8/12
Hoosick Grange met on Wednesday, February 8. Due to many members being ill, they only had a business meeting and the Lecturer’s program.
Marion Cipperly was in charge of the program. She started with a poem titled “Taste of Winter.” She gave out quiz papers on local history. There were fourteen questions. No one got them all right. The winner got a prize. [Read more…] about Hoosick Grange News – 2/8/12
Lady Panthers Stun Witches In Sectional Upset

After they finished the regular season in sixth place in the Wasaren League with a 7-11 record and seeded 13th in the Class C Sectionals, most people may have figured the Hoosick Falls Lady Panthers would close out their season on Tuesday night. And playing at the fourth seeded Greenwich Witches, who already handed them two 20 point losses, did not encourage most to believe the upset could happen. The Lady Panthers apparently were too busy preparing to get that memo though, stunning the Witches on their home court and pulling off the 44-42 first round victory.

Panthers Pound Cambridge For Third Time

The third time wasn’t the charm for the Cambridge boys basketball team. The third time playing Hoosick Falls turned out to be pretty much just like the last two times, lopsided Panther victories. The only difference was that this one ended the Indians’ season while propelling Hoosick Falls into the Class C Quarterfinals.

The Rev. Dr. Robert Loesch will present a talk on The Mount: the home and estate of Edith Wharton to the Stephentown Historical Society on Monday, March 5, at 7:30 pm.
