At the Friends of the Cheney Library January meeting a report was given on the recent Dine Out to Help Out fund-raiser at the Falls Diner. A Book Fair is planned for March. Monies raised will be used to support the local library and promote new programming. Local Farms Receive Farmland Protection
Members of the Rensselaer County Legislature welcomed the completion of three farmland protection projects, with more than 1,200 acres combined protected for future generations, Majority Leader Ken Herrington and Legislator Alex Shannon announced.
The farmland protection efforts include farms in the towns of Pittstown, Hoosick and Petersburgh, along with some acreage in the Washington County town of Jackson. State, County and local officials joined representatives from the Agricultural Stewardship Association today in announcing completion of the lengthy process required to protect properties.

St. Mary’s Academy Holds “In-Session” Open House

To welcome members of the surrounding communities in to celebrate Catholic Schools Week, St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls will be hosting a “Drop By and See Us” Open House the week of January 30 through Friday, February 3. Parents and students in pre-k and third through seventh grade are welcome to visit anytime between 8:30 am and 2 pm Monday through Thursday and between 8:30 and 11 am on Friday. HAYC3 Hoosipalooza Bed Race
Come celebrate Hoosick by watching your fellow community members’ jump on the sheets and push their crazy homemade bed mobiles down Main Street in Hoosick Falls during Hoosipalooza. Each team will be represented by a business, group, organization or family. There is no limit to the amount of decorations or spirit each team can boast. Winners will receive fame and glory throughout our community – and a trophy!
The Bed Race will begin at noon on February 4. The starting line will be at Barton Avenue and the finish line at Wood Park. Bed Race teams are welcome to set up their Bed Mobiles at 11 am in the Athletic Field parking lot. There is still space available for your team! Call 686-9050 for a registration form. There is no set price to enter the race, only a donation that will benefit the Hoosick Falls Food Pantry.
Violin Hour With Julia & Co.
Enjoy music from J.S. Bach to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom medley in the beautiful St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 70 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, on Saturday, February 4, at 10 am with 17 year old violinist Julia Baker, who began studying violin at the age of four. Julia improved her classical technique with Cathy Hall and continues to deepen her understanding of music with well known violinist Lilo Kantorowicz-Glick of North Bennington.
This free concert is presented by the Hoosick Area Youth Center and Community Coalition. Donations benefit the Hoosick Food Pantry.
