The Taconic Valley American Legion Auxiliary’s Fund-raiser to support Wally O’Neil’s healing trip to Vietnam was a nice success. On Saturday over 100 people came out in frigid weather to enjoy a wonderful variety of food, great music and an awesome eclectic Chinese auction. Kathy Jaeger donated the door prize of a huge valentine basket which held all kinds of romantic items. April Stevens won that prize. Her father, Walter Walters, won the 50/50 and donated that back. [private]The favorite food contest was a close one with the winner being Rich Reger’s macaroni and cheese. Close behind was Kathy Jaeger’s meat loaf and Pearl Koch’s walnut filled cake. This was followed by hot, home made bread and a jello flag that all the kids loved.
The Auxiliary is thankful for all who supported this event with their donations and time. It was wonderful to see the support from the community. A special thanks to DJ Ken Springer for the great music and to the young people who serenaded all the folks so beautifully.
Wally and his wife Sue still have a way to go in raising the $9,000 they need for the April trip. This trip was originally scheduled for January when it suffered a huge setback. In October, thousands of dollars were stolen from the front seat of an organizer’s car. This money, and associated tickets, had been raised in a County-wide raffle. Late donations will be gladly accepted and can be sent to the Taconic Valley American Legion Auxiliary, P.O. Box 6, Berlin, New York, 12022.
