The abundant snowfall this winter has deer moving around throughout the area and even in the Village of Hoosick Falls looking for something to eat. On Monday, January 24, at about 9 am a deer was seen on Main Street. The poor creature was so distracted by people and traffic that it jumped over a portion of collapsed fence at the corner of Main and John Streets and landed in the cellar hole of the former Dougherty’s Restaurant.
The panicked, panting deer frantically searched for a way out of the hole as people looked on
helplessly. In one corner of the property, near the back porch of the adjoining building there is no fence. Finally, with one gigantic leap, the deer managed to scramble out of the hole and make its escape. The poor creature then found its way out of downtown and back to the safety of the woods.
