Several announcements and reports were omitted from last week’s story on the Berlin Town Board meeting of December 9 due to space considerations.
Dog Control Officer Doug Goodermote reported that in the last month there had been one dog bite and that he had picked up two strays. The State inspector came to look at the Town’s kennel and, Goodermote said, the kennel passed. He also said that he had heard some complaints regarding the dog licensing fee that Berlin will start charging on January 1 in lieu of the State fee.

Petersburgh And Berlin Scouts Go To Court
Boy Scout Troop 222 from Petersburgh/Berlin went to the Grafton Town Court on Tuesday, December 14, to learn more about the courts and what happens in a town court. The Scouts were given some advice by Judge Kronua. He said that he hoped that none of the scouts would ever end up in front of him or any court but if they did they should be represented by a lawyer in any legal action.

Berlin Middle School Student Featured In Melodies Of Christmas

Thirteen year old Kirstin Hodges, a Berlin Central Middle School eighth-grader, was being featured in the Melodies of Christmas event at Proctor’s Theater in Schenectady on December 16 through 19 with all proceeds going to the Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center.

New Lebanon Assessor Craig Surprise said he felt a very inaccurate picture of the way STAR exemptions are handled was given by the remarks made by New Lebanon Councilman Bruce Baldwin at last week’s Town Board meeting, quoted in a report in this paper.

HF Junior Girl Scouts’ Christmas Cookie Exchange
Junior Girl Scout Troop 1104’s First Annual Christmas Cookie Exchange took place Wednesday evening, December 15, at the Immaculate Conception Church’s St. Joseph’s Room during their holiday party.
After their opening Pledge of Allegiance and Girl Scout Promise the scouts settled down to the movie, “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas,” nibbled popcorn, played games, made handmade holiday cards and personalized name signs.

As 2010 draws to a close the Board of Directors and staff of the Hoosick Area Youth Center & Community Coalition are thankful for the support of the community that allows us to provide programs, services and assistance to youth and families. We are honored to be a part of so many lives, and we intend to continue to serve the Hoosick area for years to come.

Hoosick Grange News
Hoosick Grange had its Christmas Party on December 8 with the Mennonite Family Singers. Marion Hynick was in charge of the program, and she introduced them. They sang the traditional Christmas songs and some unusual ones that we didn’t know. We were encouraged to sing along with them. The children sang some songs all by themselves.
