After several meetings, two Public Hearings and months of discussion, the Hoosick Falls Village Board voted four to three on Monday, September 20, to discontinue Village Dispatch Service with the following resolution.
“The Village of Hoosick Falls, in an attempt to consolidate services, reduce spending and adhere to a statewide focus on 911 services, hereby resolves to terminate the department of dispatch on May 1, 2011 at which time all emergency services shall be dispatched by Rensselaer County 911 in accordance with the agreed upon contract.”

HFCS Senior Choir To Sing At Carnegie Hall

It was announced at the regular meeting of the Hoosick Falls School Board on September 16 that the Hoosick Falls High School Senior Choir will be performing at Carnegie Hall on December 2 as part of a 200 voice chorus with a 94 piece orchestra. Petersburgh Planning Board Seeks To Revise Site Plan Review Law

At the Town Board meeting on Monday, September 20, Petersburgh Town Supervisor Peter Schaaphok said he had received a letter from the Planning Board saying that they would like to revise the subdivision regulations, proposing that a one year moratorium on new subdivisions be enacted while they are rewriting the regs and requesting a budget of $7,500 for expert assistance in the rewriting project.

Pumpkinpalooza Schedule Loaded With Fun
The schedule of events for the Second Annual Hoosick Pumpkinpalooza is loaded with family-friendly activities that will appeal to visitors young and old. A tentative listing of events appears on the Hoosick Area Youth Center & Community Coalition (HAYC3) website, www.hoosickyouth.org. During the festival, the most current information will be available at the information booths located in Wood Memorial Park and at the Town of Hoosick Athletic Fields. Both locations are just off Main Street in Hoosick Falls.

Hoosick Falls Derby Club Remembers Veterans
The Hoosick Falls Derby Club has once again shown its generosity by donating $500 to the Veterans Memorial Wall to be constructed in the Village Park in the Village of Hoosick Falls. Club President Joan James said, “It is with great pride the Derby Club honors the Veterans of Hoosick who have fought to preserve our many freedoms.”

Stephentown Town Board Action – Concerns About Concert Sounds

From August 19 to 22, the Bella Terra Festival was held at Gardner’s Field in Stephentown. Event promoter, Jeffrey Schneider, reported that 1,400 people attended the event and that it was well-received by the community. Several residents, however, expressed concerns about the amount of noise created by the concert. Reportedly, even during late-night hours, post 11 pm, the music was noticeably loud in parts of town. One resident asked whether there was a Town ordinance that regulated noise. The response was that there was no such ordinance at the local level, only at the state level.
