The Hoosick Falls Central School District will hold a public meeting to present and discuss the Hoosick Falls School’s Parent/Student Handbook on Tuesday, August 31, at 9 am in the auditorium. Parents and Students are encouraged to attend.

ATV Accident In The Deep Woods Of Berlin

An ATV accident on the Taconic Ridge Friday evening, August 20, brought out multiple agencies to the rescue. According to Berlin Fire Chief William Osterhout, the accident occurred close to the Massachusetts border two or three miles up in the woods beyond the Mattison Hollow trail head in Cherry Plain that leads up to the Taconic Ridge State Forest.

Berlin Passes Windmill Moratorium

During its regular meeting on Thursday, August 12, the Berlin Town Board voted unanimously to pass Local Law #1 of 2010, also known as the Wind Energy Conversion System Construction Moratorium. This law prohibits the construction of wind energy conversion systems, commonly referred to as windmills or wind turbines, between the heights of 35 and 300 feet for one year. Coming Home To A Disaster In Grafton

Daniel and Jessica Browe and their three children, Sara, 13, Tyler, 11, and Corinne, 9, were in Rensselaer watching the fireworks over the Hudson River on July 4 when they received a phone call no one wants to receive. Their house on Yerdon Road in Grafton was on fire. By the time they arrived, their home was a pile of smoldering rubble.

Mausert Resigns From HFCS Board

Hoosick Falls School Board Member Rye Mausert submitted his resignation prior to this week’s monthly meeting, and the Board accepted it at the meeting. Mausert was not present at the meeting and no information was offered as to why he resigned at this time.
The School Board is actively seeking people who might be interested in an appointment to this seat. Those who are interested are asked to send a letter of interest to the District Clerk.

Meredith Lukas Is A Finalist For School Girl Queen At The Columbia County Fair
Meredith Lukas is among six of Columbia County’s best and brightest young women who have been announced as finalists for the title of School Girl Queen by officials at the Columbia County Fair.
Lukas attends New Lebanon High School and is the daughter of Randolph and Carol Lukas of New Lebanon. Yearbook Club and class fund raisers are on her list of High School activities. She also enjoys teaching gymnastics and traveled to Ireland last summer on a Mission trip. This summer she is planning a trip to Peru.
