Lifelong Friends Both Receive SUNY Potsdam Award
Two Berlin graduates, and lifelong friends, have been named the recipients of the “Clarkson Family Award” for 3-2 engineering at the State University of New York at Potsdam. Nicholas Paine, son of Jeff and Diane Paine of Petersburgh, and Matthew Hartnett, son of Joyce and Michael Hartnett of Berlin, both 2007 graduates of Berlin Central School received the prestigious “Clarkson Family Award” given by the Clarkson family to a student (this year two) who has excelled in the Potsdam portion of the 3-2 engineering program. I sat down to read the Eastwick Press this morning and found the story about the petition to have the Berlin Lumber site purchased by the Town of Berlin. In that story Town Board Member Richard von Schilgen is cited as stating that the opposition to this purchase outside the group that was attending the Board meeting is quite strong. In my view, Mr. von Schilgen is absolutely correct.
